Students say no to plastic on campus
Plastic is the major cause of pollution. Considering this, the students of Galgotia University have initiated a campaign for a “Plastic Free Campus” by putting a ban on the use of plastic inside the campus area.
The students have even started a recycling drive, in which they are turning plastic products into flower pots, candle stands etc.
Dhruv Galgotia, CEO, Galgotia University, is happy that the proposal came from the students. “The rule for plastic ban is applied to all — students, faculty, staff members and even me,” he remarked and added that the interdict will be beneficial in many ways, and will contribute immensely in nature conservation.
Student co-ordinator Ankit points that a team of students has been set up to keep an eye on the defaulters. “The team will also warn the defaulters carrying plastic. He adds that the consecutive defaulter’s plastic material would be seized and the person will be fined. The seized plastic product would be recycled rather than thrown away,” he said.
Head of Students Affair, Vinni Mathur, said, “We want our children to grow in a pollution-free environment. Plastic has invaded our lives. We have begun using it everywhere, indiscriminately. It needs to stop.”
