Style icon? No pressure!
She didn’t have to work out much on her body to slip into a red-hot two-piece bikini. Move over Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor. It is Deepika Padukone who has become the new youth style icon. Her short skirts and long hair in Cocktail are the talk of the town. So does being a “style icon” add pressure on her?
“The most important thing is to be yourself. I don’t imitate or idolise anyone. I have my own inherent style. I’m aware that college kids get enamored by an actors’ clothes, hair and body language. So, yes, I’m extra cautious and prefer to closely work with my stylists when it comes to creating a glamorous look or a trendy, unconventional hairdo,” says Dippy.
Although the Cocktail promotions have brought Deepika’s uber sense of style back into the limelight, she’s someone who has always been lauded heavily for that. And the actress is well aware of that fact. “I like to believe that the media has always been very fair to me.”
This comes as a surprise as she has also been on the receiving end of negative attention. “Initially, I’d really panic and get angry every time I’d read anything written about my personal life in newspapers. Now, I’ve become immune to it. I’ve realised that no reaction is the best reaction,” she says.
Probe her about her current relationship status and Deepika insists, for the umpteenth time, that she is single. “Thankfully my work keeps me busy round the clock. And honestly, I like it that way.” She reveals that she has never planned anything in life. “In my life I have always gone with the flow. Yes, there are times when I do get stuck and doubts automatically creep in. That’s when I consult my friends in the industry who have always been there to bail me out of sticky situations.” So then who exactly are these friends she is talking about? “I have a very good equation with most people I have worked with, which includes Ayan Mukherjee, Farah Khan, Karan Johar, and Ranbir,” she says.
At the mention of Ranbir, one can’t help but probe her to talk about her on-and-off equation with him. To which she says, “Yes, Ranbir is a good friend. If there was a chance of ruining the equation we share, we wouldn’t have agreed to work together in the first place,” Dippy says.
Unlike actresses senior to her, such as Preity Zinta, Deepika has no plans of turning producer. She says that she has never even thought of a plan B in career. “Acting is my only profession. It gives me a chance to entertain my audience and make them happy. Ups and downs in the profession are inevitable. One has good days and bad days, good films and bad films. But I think I can deal with that stress very well. And I don’t think I’m ready to get into production.”
