Styling art with fashion
Fashion wasn’t just the talking point at the recently concluded Wills India Lifestyle Fashion Week (WIFW) this year. Also in the spotlight, were some creative minds who picked up the artistic route to showcase their interpretation of fashion. We take a look at the artworks that were inspired from the theme of ‘when art meets fashion’.
Designer Samant Chauhan contributed an art installation wall for the venue for which he got rave reviews. Speaking about his inspiration he says, “I created an installation of 27x10 feet canvas in beige, off-white and black squares to showcase my interpretation of art and fashion. I have used modern art images inspired from fabrics in my art installation. The art is inspired by Madhubani paintings and since I belong to that part of the country, I wanted to use the elements from that art.”
At a popular lounge, artists Vinita Dasgupta and Farhad Hussain converted the huge vodka bottles into a canvas and painted myriad colours of fashion on them.
She says, “As an artist Bollywood and fashion fascinate me. I have painted fashionable women and tried to showcase Indian textile inspired prints and designs on four 2.5x8 feet vodka bottle shaped canvas that were given to us by the organisers. Many of these works are inspired by pop art, and I have used bright acrylic colours to showcase women of contemporary urban ethos with their preoccupations about the body.”
Designer and caricature artist Manish Tripathi, who painted an extensive caricature of the bourgeoisie socialites and designers at the FDCI lounge, reveals the idea behind his creation. “I have been observing people in this profession from a long time and wanted to make an artistic representation of this through my artworks. I picked up elements like their dresses and style to depict a typical party scene in Delhi.”
