The second Indian Edition of the Indian Grand Prix that begins on October 26 will witness hotter and sexier Grid Girls, who plan to up the glamour quotient a notch higher. Designers Nikhil and Shantanu, who have designed the costume for these leggy lasses reveal more about the new look.

“To represent India on a Global platform for this spectacular event is exciting and I think responsibilities of this magnitude bring out the best in you,” says Shantanu.
The three pivotal requirements of any F1 racing event are, technology, the race of course, and glamour. And it was the duo’s responsibility to get the glamour quotient bang on. “We were given a very clear brief — to make the girls look chic, stylish and sexy. We used a red silhouette, which is the colour of the brand, Airtel, which, in itself, is very edgy. The dress has a band collar and zipper, inspired by the race and the way the racers dress. The white lines are for the sheer power of F1 racing,” he says.
After considerable research, they arrived at what they liked — a dress for the grid girl, who has to be out there on the tracks all three days of the event. “It’s a tough condition out there, and we wanted to make something that was comfortable and spelt luxury at the same time. Considering these factors, weaving Indian-ness becomes difficult,” Shantanu adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
