Tarot card reader faces ‘SMS abuse’
Going through a separation is not easy for any married woman. However, for tarot card reader Poonam Sethi things turned ugly when she got to know that even though she’s already going through a painful divorce there is a “malicious” SMS allegedly doing the rounds “tarnishing” her reputation. And she allegedly suspects that it’s her husband who is circulating it. The SMS claims that she allegedly runs a sex-racket and exploits young men.
Sethi was in a party when she received the “spiteful” text and she couldn’t believe it. She told us that it’s been five months since she filed for divorce and her husband had allegedly threatened her about the consequences. She said, “He initiated this because I decided to walk out of the marriage. If what he says is true why was he quiet for such a long time? Just because I am a woman he thinks he can harass me. It’s very easy for a man to attack a woman’s character, but I am not going to give up and I’ll fight till the end.”
Poonam has been trying to file an FIR at the Kirti Nagar police station since that day so that she can take legal action. “The FIR is still not filed against my husband and though the police have been cooperative, it is taking time. It’s really disheartening because this SMS can ruin my 23-year-old career. I am also taking help from NGOs,” she adds.
Rajan Bhagat, additional DCP and Delhi police spokesperson informs, “In cases where somebody is spreading a malicious SMS the first thing is to inform the anti-obscene cell at the helpline number 1096. If you know about the caller or who is circulating the SMS then contact the telephone subscriber and ask them to immediately stop the services.”
