Taunting beauties

Taunts and lashing out at each other has now become a common scene in tinsel town. The most recent case being that of Deepika Padukone commenting on Kareena Kapoor’s ego problems.
Earlier, when Kareena Kapoor commented on Asin’s performance in Bodyguard saying Nayanthara outdid her performance, everyone realised that the actress’ movies are treated as ‘competitive’.
Earlier there were reports about Genelia D’Souza commenting on Asin and members of the film fraternity seem to be thinking on the lines of whether this taunting and lashing out on each other thereby trying to affect one and another’s ego is ever going to come to a stop.
When asked, Asin said, “I am extremely happy and comfortable with myself. What Genelia or the public say will not affect me in the least. I know my capabilities.”
Actor Vishal comments saying, ‘It’s really complicated to work on the sets with two actresses’. The actor says, “This industry is about survival of the fittest. It’s difficult to work with an actress if she has an ego problem with someone else on the set.”
Rewind to the spat between Kareena and Priyanka Chopra that was triggered on Koffee with Karan and down south Trisha and Nayanthara are said to be constantly warring, item babe Sona and Namitha have made statements about each other… the list goes on.
Some say it’s a knack to be on top and yet maintain friendship with the co-stars. Khushboo is one such person. Having been part of the K’wood industry for years, she says, “It’s not true that you can’t share a good rapport with your rival. Gauthami for instance is one of my closest friends and she was my biggest rival in the industry. It all depends on whether you connect with the person or not. Just because you act in a multi-heroine flick, doesn’t mean you build friendship.”
For those who have made baby steps in the industry, it’s all about making the right choices and maintaining healthy competition. Sassy actress Priya Anand says, “Competition is good but it doesn’t make sense to compete in every single aspect. And ‘friendship’ depends on the individual. Also, this doesn’t just apply to actresses but actors too.”
Psychologists say it’s natural to be envious and insecurity often leads to such outbursts. Dr Aparna Gharpure, a counsellor and psychologist says, “Today, every profession has become so competitive that this leads to insecurity and people lash out in public just to prove a point. Only when one is completely satisfied with the world, such scenes will not be created.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
