Teen poetess write on track
When girls her age were busy adorning their Barbie dolls, Vani Shriya was writing poetry at the age of six.
“For a long time I was a closet poet, and would cringe at the idea of letting someone read my poetry,” says 18-year-old Vani Shriya, whose book of poetry, A Wish was launched by Om Books International in the capital recently.
A Wish is a collection of 32 poems that explores a world refracted through the young poetess’ mind. Confident and highly articulate, Vani says, “I have used poetry as a medium to let others experience the emotions that I feel, and also to express other people’s experiences. The pieces may be dark, but it’s up to the reader to see light in them.” Vani is currently a Business Management student at Singapore Management University.
Apart from being a voracious reader, Vani also loves shopping in the capital. She says, “Delhi is charming and welcomes everyone with open arms. I love to hang out with my family and friends.”
Vani finds her best friend, strongest critic and the pillar of support in her elder sister. She adds, “ I miss my sister and Delhi.”
