Three cheers for Lakshmi

LGBT community activist Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi has recently been honoured with National Legal Services Authority Award of Excellence for working in legal services and is the recipient of Dada Saheb Phalke Academy Award for Queens as a token of appreciation for inclusion of transgender and sex workers in the women’s policy.

Socialite Jiya Jagiasi recently held a function to felicitate Lakshmi for her awards and contribution to society. “In a society like ours, Lakshmi has strived for the rights of the LGBT community and made them lead their lives respectfully. We love and admire her and look up to the courage she has displayed. This is a celebration of liberty,” said Jiya.
Lakshmi, overwhelmed with such support from her near and dear ones, added, “The award is a motivation, I’ll continue doing work that makes people of our community stand upright and face challenges.”
We need more people like Lakshmi who will make a difference to the world!
