Recently, after TV actor Gurmeet Choudhary won Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 5, he unabashedly declared that he is waiting to be noticed. “I always wanted to do films. I hope directors have seen me perform in Jhalak... and I get a call from them that they want to cast me as the lead actor in their film,” Gurmeet said.

The actor did not mince words while suggesting that making it to Bollywood remains the ultimate dream of reality show participants. And they have actress Prachi Desai to look up to as she made it to films after winning Jhalak season 2. Some aspire for 70mm, some don’t. But Bollywood dream tops the list of many of them.

Abhijeet Sawant, Winner of Indian Idol-1
I entered the show (Indian Idol) with a dream to become a successful playback singer in Bollywood. It’s been a long time and a long journey, but I am yet to achieve my dream. I have released two albums and recorded for movies like Aashiq Banaya Aapne and Tees Maar Khan, and presently I am working on my third album, but I know I have to work harder. There is a long way to go. Reality shows are a key to success, but they do not ensure that one will make it to Bollywood. That yet remains my prime dream.

Salman Yusuff Khan,
Winner of Dance India Dance
Frankly, I did not have any particular dream when I participated in DID. All I wanted was to become famous, that people should respect me and appreciate my talent. After my failed attempts at pilot training and mechanical engineering, I wanted to be famous. While people around me wanted to make it to Bollywood or choreograph for movies, I just wanted to become famous for my talent and the show proved to be a great platform for me.

Debojit Saha, Winner Of Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Star Voice Of India
I staked my job as a civil engineer and moved to Mumbai because I wanted to give myself a chance. Like everyone, even I dreamt of becoming a successful playback singer in Bollywood and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa gave me that platform to showcase my talent. Though, after so long, I still feel I have much more to do. I am doing a number of stage shows and people abroad know me, but this is not the only thing. I still want to become a successful playback singer. Though I have sung for Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster and Tees Maar Khan, I am waiting to deliver a hit for which people will remember me always.

Shweta Tiwari, TV actress and winner of Big Boss season 5
I never planned before entering any reality show. Probably, you can’t preplan as you have to go in with an open mind and deal with a lot of things. And if you ask me if reality shows were a stepping stone for me to make it to Bollywood, that was never the case.
I am very satisfied with my TV stint and have already acted in movies. It has never been a case of Bollywood calling for me.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
