Tisca scripts a filmi guide

She made a lasting impression as protagonist Ishaan Awasthi’s mother in the highly lauded Taare Zameen Par and bagged a National award for her role. She followed it up with Firaaq, another award-winning film. Actress Tisca Chopra might not be the busy bee of tinseltown.

But this year is going to be special for her for a very different reason. A book written by her on the film industry is set for release, around Diwali. It is tentatively titled, Get Your Act Right.
“The idea of writing the book struck about four years ago. Whenever I used to travel for work, I realised that outsiders had misconceptions about the film industry. Right from how a film was ideated, scripts written, to scenes enacted. I decided to come out with something which would give an outsider a proper glimpse of the industry. My book is like a guide for them,” says Tisca. Dressed in an electric blue gown and silver jewellery, the actress was in the city for the launch of designer Urvashi Kaur’s spring summer collection.
Talking about her flair for writing, she reveals, “I come from a family of writers. So I had it in my blood, you can say. In addition, I studied literature at Delhi University. It honed my writing skills further.” Not many would know that prominent author Khushwant Singh is her grand uncle. Remembering him fondly, she says, “He loves reading and writing. Once when I was sitting with him, he pointed at the books surrounding him and said, ‘Sau saal ka saaman, kal ki khabar nai.’ That line just stuck to me.”
Known for her sartorial choices, we ask Tisca about her fashion preferences.“I love wearing Indian and western wear equally. The clothes should just fit one’s personality. I hate it when people force-fit themselves,” she quips. The actress will soon be seen in a film titled, Ankur Arora Murder Case and an international project with Irfaan Khan.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
