Traffic updates a click away for tech-savvy

Tech freaks in the capital now have a reason to smile, as traffic updates are now available on Facebook and Twitter. In a move to spread a word about traffic updates more effectively, Delhi Police is now updating the situation in the city on these social networking websites. So, all you’ve got to do is log on to your Facebook or Twitter account, and get a hang of traffic around the city.
“It would be of great help. I saw the Delhi Traffic Police website, and realised that they do answer your traffic-related queries. So, in a way this move will remove misconceptions about the way Delhi Traffic Police works. Since most of us are active on twitter and facebook through our mobiles, it’s a great step,” says Radhika Banta, a young professional from Chandigarh.
Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police PRO, adds that the Delhi Traffic Police page on Facebook has drawn an active response from all parts of the city. He says, “We are quite impressed that Delhiites are updating traffic situations on the roads every few minutes on Facebook. And the traffic management looks into these complaints within minutes, except in a few cases where action can be taken only after permissions from higher authorities.”
For some, there’s still time before their links are well spread on social networking websites. Sumit Sandhu, a photography student from Jamia Millia Islamia feels, “Well, it is a great act to connect with people through a totally new and high-end channel, but I feel they’ll have to spread the word more, so that youngsters pass on the link to more and more people on Facebook and Twitter.”
But there are some who share their apprehensions about the same. “People who will be travelling might not be connected to net all the time,” opines Shweta Singh, a student.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
