Trousers flaunt a flair for flare
It is now the next generation which is taking fashion to the next level. So when Limi Feu, the daughter of the legendary Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, sent down models in wide legged pant suits, Paris was on fire. And then Chloe, Miu Miu and Jil Sander followed and they all have fallen in love with these comfy monochromes.
But if you are not as blessed or as proportionate as the stunning Brazilian beauty Gisele Bunchen and still want to wear wide-legged pants, here’s the trick. As most Indian women are heavy-bottomed, the cool way to look trendy and hide those bulges is to team these flaring pants with a body slimming button down shirt. And then you are a la Diane Keaton in the 60s or maybe even the beautiful Meryl Streep in a Woody Allen classic.
Shilpi Dhir, managing director, Giovani says that wide-legged pants are definitely back in vogue and are an all time favourite on the international runway, from the who’s who of Hollywood such as Katie Holmes to our Bollywood stars like Deepika Padukone, everybody is sporting this silhouette this summer.
Though here’s a word of caution. Wide legged pants are great for the tall bodies as they give them more structure, but if you don’t have the height and only the width, you can team these well with stilettos and a range of accessories from big bangles to clutches.
The greatest advantage of these voluminous trousers is that they give you a relaxed yet trendy look. Wide legged trousers take you back to the fashion era of early 60-70s. The best part is that these trousers can make an easy transition from office to a dinner out. “You can create many looks with wide-legged trousers. For example, you can team this up with summery tops for the classy look, you can wear the same with a ganji for a sporty look and a feminine top will give you a formal look. Wide-legged trousers can be dressed to perfection for any event and make you look like a very stylish diva,” says Rohan Bhargava, owner of brand Muah.
