On TV, ‘tis season to be jolly
When it comes to Christmas, television sitcoms are as integral a part of the season as the Christmas tree, carols and lovely presents from Santa Claus. As we go about our real Christmas preparations, nothing feels nicer than having the company of our favourite reel characters. So whether it’s a new series or reruns of golden episodes from Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men or Modern Family, the small screen plays a rather large role in our Christmas experience.
Says VJ-turned-actor Rannvijay Singh, “TV builds up the Christmas spirit more than anything else in India. My favourite Christmas sitcom memory would be the Friends episode where Rachel and Phoebe are searching for their Christmas presents, which Monica has hidden.” He continues, “A close second would be How I Met Your Mother where Robin spends her first Christmas away from home and how the others make it special for her.”
Animated characters are no less popular. Says Adam Bedi, “I love Christmas episodes of The Simpsons. The humour is classic — it can’t be extended to real characters.”
