‘Upload to earn’ a hit with GenY
It’s time to earn while you jam with your song on YouTube. The most popular video site will now give an opportunity to earn extra bucks to users who regularly and actively upload their videos on the site. The video hosting site has recently signed an agreement with the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and Harry Fox Agency (HFA), which gives music publishers an opportunity to earn whenever their music is used by fans, marking its popularity on the site.
From short films to dance and song videos, young budding artistes and musicians are quite upbeat about this. Says Sahil Mighlani, a musician, “I’m very keen on recording my album soon. So I regularly post songs from my album to promote it. It’s great to know that now we can even earn through it. I didn’t want my parents to sponsor my album, so this is a great way to collect some funds.”
And besides the money, users feel that this is sure to make them more confident about their works. Karan, a photographer and budding filmmaker who often posts short films on YouTube, says, “Although through likes we get to know the popularity of our films and videos on the site, now getting paid for it will make budding artistes more confident. If this site is providing us an opportunity to earn, I might quit freelance photography and put in more efforts in making films.”
Ankita Asdair, a salsa dancer, who along with choreographer Ankit Goyla teaches salsa, says it would be helpful for her to be an online instructor. “We often post videos for students to teach them dancing. Now even those videos will help us earn. If we now start online salsa classes, it’ll help us earn extra bucks as well.”
