Veena piles on extra pounds

Pakistani starlet and sex symbol Veena Mallik is a very busy woman these days. Apart from shuttling between Mumbai and Bengaluru for her upcoming Kannada flick Silk Sakkath Maga, she is working on two other films namely, Rajeev Ruia’s Zindagi 50:50 and Supermodel opposite Ashmit Patel.

Shooting for a film in an alien language can be quite a task, but Veena seems to be up for the challenge. “I had never even heard Kannada before, let alone speaking the language. But it’s a part of the deal and I am enjoying learning a new language. The Hindi that people speak in India is also very different as compared to what is spoken in Pakistan, so I am getting used to the idea of opening up to new languages,” she says. But that’s not the only thing that shows Veena’s dedication. The actress who had struggled to lose weight before entering the film industry has apparently gained a few kilos to fit the role of a South Indian actress.
“The concept of size zero does not exist in the South. They appreciate it if their women are voluptuous and slightly chubby. So yes, I have gained five kilos. I used to weigh 48 kilos and am 53 now,” she adds.
She insists that the movie is not a remake of Vidya Balan’s Dirty Picture. “It’s a much more realistic take on the topic and life of Silk Smita,” she adds.
Apart from shooting for the three films, Veena is also busy dubbing for her fourth film, Mumbai 125 Kms where she plays a sex worker. “The next few months are chock-a-block with worth, but I am enjoying every bit of the madness and brouhaha right now,” she says.
Veena, who was to be part of reality TV show Swayamvar (which involves the actor marrying one of the contestants on the show), says that marriage is definitely not on the cards for now. “I have realised that things never pan out the way I want them to if I plan too much. It’s a pattern that has been there throughout my life,” she sums up.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
