Virtual search for mysticism

There’s a world of a difference browsing and actually getting down to learning something. More so, when it concerns specialised fields like — tarot, runes, angel cards or Wicca. The Internet is a huge hub of information, where one can look up almost anything, but it’s also a world where confusion and misguidance prevails alongside.
Looking up the Web to know about what tarot or runes is one thing, but blindly following it is another. That’s where experience comes in.
MBA student Niyyatie Dua learnt about tarot on the Internet. She dabbled with cards, but now intends to learn it from a professional. She says, “This was six years ago, when tarot wasn’t that popular, I developed interest in it and now want to take it up professionally.”
Holistic healer and angel card reader, Gayatrri Bhartiya agrees that the Internet is like a huge library, but it should be used with care. “There is a possibility that basics can be learnt, but experiences can’t be sought. When an experienced person teaches you, you learn a lot, I doubt you can replicate the exact way you’re supposed to feel from a website while meditating or reading cards,” she says.
Though there are benefits too, that can’t be ignored. Ayesha Singh, (name changed) discovered a book on angels, and then went on to the Internet to learn more about it. A year later, she was practicing angel cards on her own. She opines, “During the one year period, I was on a self discovery mode. I wanted to learn it the way my instinct guided me. When I felt I couldn’t get more from the Web or books, I went to a professional for guidance.” Agrees Shweta Bhagat, who was gifted a tarot deck and taught herself by reading up on it. “I took it up one day, and have been honing my intuition on a daily basis. I now do reading for my friends. It’s fun, but I am still learning,” she adds.
However, spiritual counsellor and mentor of occult sciences Madhu Kotiya warns that the Internet can misguide you. “It surely has information, but does not guarantee what you learn or perceive is right. The chances of being misguided are higher. Students and youngsters should have somebody to guide them as it is the same Web which can help you seek a professional who can teach you as well,” she adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
