Viru’s double takes Twitter by storm
Even as destructive India opener Virender Sehwag was rewriting the history books with his monumental 219-run knock in the fourth ODI against the West Indies in Indore, the tweeple were slowly waking up to one of the greatest knocks ever played in the game. Sehwag’s teammate Yuvraj Singh, who is recovering from a non-malignant lung tumour, was first off the blocks, much before the landmark arrived.
“Come on sehwag get to 200 !!” posted yuvsingh09, when Viru was a mere 12 runs away from the double. The middle-order batsman even put the Nawab of Najafgarh on the same pedestal as the great West Indian Vivian Richards. “I say it again! I never saw sir viv bat but iv seen sehwag bat! what a player 219 in a one day game is next to impossible!” Yuvraj tweeted later.
Former India player and now a commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar tweeted — “The most likely candidate to beat tendulkar’s record has done it ! That he got the 200 in a 50 over match with plenty to spare tells u a bit about virendra sehwag....”
Out-of-favour-cricketer with the West Indies Cricket Board, Chris Gayle was also one of the first to congratulate Sehwag through the microblogging website. “Well I did watch some of that innings by Viru.... Brilliant striking!! Congrats on ur 219.. That’s child abuse! The Mask would say, Smoking!” henrygayle tweeted.
Indian tennis stars Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Boppanna used the current rage Kolaveri Di in their posts. “Why this Kolaveri - Vi ru :)” tweeted Bopanna while Bhupathi posted — “Holy cow is all I am gonna say about that innings... Amazing stuff by Viru. As Johnny Mac would say ‘you can’t be serious.’”
And model Poonam Pandey wasn’t also far behind stopping just short of her striptease act. “Wow Shewag gave us a Double Treat so TweetHearts!! u will get a Double Treat tonite... Loads of Pix and Video 352535 Luv u all xox Muwwwah!!”.
