Visibility is vital to stay on top

King Khan may not be invincible anymore and the one to do the honours this time is neither a perfectionist nor a Dabanng— it’s desi girl Priyanka Chopra. In a recent global survey the two stars were ranked among the most popular celebrities of the world, and incidentally at the eighth position Miss Chopra stood towering over Shah Rukh who was at the ninth spot.

The rankings were according to fan-feedback on social-networking and video-sharing websites. However, given Khan’s unbeatable stardom, the results spur questions as to whether or not it’s an indication of his waning popularity. No one in the world can stay in the number one position for long, says television actor Arjun Punj. “I think the phrase ‘out of sight, out of mind’ applies in case of this survey. And of late Priyanka has certainly been more popular because popularity is based on good films. Earlier we remembered SRK as Raj or Rahul but now I don’t even remember what was his first name in My Name is Khan,” he says. Seems visibility is necessary even for a superstar to stay on top.
