Vivaan’s not kidding
Being the son of stalwarts like Naseeruddin and Ratna Pathak Shah and having the talented Imaad Shah for an older brother is bound to carry a fair extra baggage. But 21-year-old Vivaan Shah carries the added burden of debuting in Vishal Bhardwaj’s highly anticipated Saat Khoon Maaf.
The young actor is completely aware of the weight of the expectations that surround him and says he’s ready to reckon with whatever criticism comes his way. “I know this is a highly opinionated world that we inhabit, but that does not bother me. I won’t let frivolous things hinder my work,” says Vivaan.
Having a co-star like Priyanka Chopra in his debut project would be a dream for many Bollywood aspirants, but for Vivaan the journey has been comparatively smooth. “I won’t deny that,” he says, adding, “But I wasn’t pampered on the sets. I was just another actor. I had to make my mark as everyone else on the sets was far more experienced than I was. This film has a lot of great actors working in it, who were literally breathing their characters. This is such an eclectic film... Working with a director like Vishal Bhardwaj and an actress like Priyanka was a little intimidating. But they both sensed it and created a friendly atmosphere on the sets.”
