After .org or .gov, net domain is set to expand. According to Internet Names for Assigned Names and Numbers, soon we may see domain names like .delhi, .mumbai etc. People can also have domains like .gupta, .movies, .love etc. Netizens are excited about the change and want to choose cool and interesting names for their personal domain names.

Himanshu Shivnani, module lead in NEC HCL System Technology, Gurgaon, says, “It will add a personal touch to an individual identity. This process, initiated after several years of planning, could trigger a dramatic expansion of the Internet. My domain would simply be my name .shivnani.”
Seconds Anubhav Singh, a cyber firm employee. “This is a very good move by the authorities as the Internet had to expand in some manner. I will definitely create a domain name based on the city where I am operating from to set a clear demarcation of operations of a particular company operating in various cities.”
Some opt for domains based on their passions. Devika Mittal, a LSR student says, “It’s really interesting. The entire concept sounds great. Now many websites are quite personal so .org, .com is not suitable. My domain would depend on what my site is all about. For instance, if it’s like my personal website, I’ll have some catchy word which defines my site and me, and then will add .mittal to it. I’m also a Harry Potter fan, so maybe it can simply be www.devikamittal.hogwarts. It might also be called .poet for the website based on my collection of poems.”
Tarun Vaid, who works with online marketing firm, Snapdeal shares, “It seems the move is to localise the URLs, so that they focus on a particular area. It will also help in reaching a centralised mass and catering to them. Personal names will be easier to search and would create a bigger impact. I would like to create a domain tarunvaid.guitarist as I love playing the guitar. The website will have all the information about guitar, guitar tabs, chords etc,” he sums up.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
