Warm house parties gain steam for New Year’s eve

So, we are just four days away from New Year’s eve. And what are you planning? Going out with friends to a club or have you booked a hall for a party? Not everyone is as privileged as you to be able to spend a huge amount on ushering in the New Year. Youngsters, with limited pocket money, have decided to fly solo and are organising warm house parties. In their small budget, they are trying to make their parties as happening as they can. Some want to enjoy the bash to the fullest with dance, drama and fun, while others just want to relax with friends and booze.
Not enough money is not deterring the spirit of some enthusiastic college students. Navneet Sidana, a second year college student, says that December was an expensive month for him. “Many of my friends’ birthdays happen to fall in December. So, i had to spend a lot throughout the month. Now, we are left with very little pocket money, so we are planning to maximise fun and minimise the expenditure,” he says, adding that after spending some time at a club in Noida, all his friends and he will go to one of their friend’s house to spend the entire night and will dance on well, Munni, what else?
For some, music defines a party. “If the music is right, it would set the rhythm of the party. Then it doesn’t matter what place you have chosen for the bash. Even a small room would be enough to have fun,” says media professional Nivedita Sharma, who has invited her friends at her place on the New Year’s eve. But she has been cautious while inviting friends. “The right mix of people is important while throwing a house party as even one person who will not blend in can spoil the fun,” she adds.
Surprisingly, Nivedita is not the only one who is keeping this in mind, there are some who have planned different parties with various groups of friends. IT professional Raveej Singh, says that this time there’s another advantage that 31st is a Friday. “I have three parties planned with three sets of friends. Since most of pubs and clubs are jam-packed during New Year’s eve, we have planned bashes at our place. It starts on Friday with a group of school friends and ends on Sunday with office colleagues,” shares Raveej.
While everyone has a different reason to have a bash at home, there are some who just love to celebrate quietly and thus home suits them the best. MBA student Abhishek Sinha doesn’t like loud music and the wild crowd at discotheques, clubs and bars. “I just can’t take it, neither can my friends,” says Abhishek, who has planned a good menu and soft music for friends for his New Year’s eve bash.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
