We all need love: Asin

It’s not been too long since Asin made her debut in Bollywood with Aamir Khan in Ghajini in 2008, but four years later she is counted among the top heroines in the 100-crore plus club. For someone who has always been a superstar in the South, Bollywood hasn’t exactly been a cakewalk.

She might have been lucky with some projects, but sustaining a career has been a constant struggle in the industry. The actress, who has always maintained a low profile and kept mum on her link-ups, friendships, has finally opened up after so many years. She admits that she does count few big names from Bollywood among her close friends. “Most of the people I’ve worked with are my friends. But the ones I’m in touch with on phone or through messaging are Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. I know that they’ll always be there for me,” says Asin.
The actress insists that their equation isn’t based on the success or failures of their respective films.
Asin reveals that it’s only when you reach a certain comfort zone in friendship that the actors reveal their real personalities. “Like for the world, Ajay is picture of calm and composure, but he can be a real prankster,” she says. Does her personality too have many layers? “Absolutely,” she says adding, “I’m different with different people. A celebrity can never be himself or herself in public. When I’m working there’s a different side to me, but with my family and friends I’m a completely different person.”
We move on to talking about her career. After the stupendous success of Housefull 2, Asin has strengthened herself in the industry.
“At the risk of sounding immodest, I can tell you that it was Ghajni that started the trend of the 100 crore club and now others are following suit.”
And what’s exactly with the ‘single’ status? Doesn’t Asin miss being in a relationship? “Of course,” she exclaims. “We all need love and attention. I’m not desperately looking for a relationship. But, I’m not holding myself back either. It’ll happen when I meet someone I can connect with,” she smiles.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
