Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan’s debut stint on television, is halfway through its journey and the superstar is pleased with the impact the show has managed to create. Over the past few weeks, the makers of the show including Aamir have been on the receiving end of several volatile reactions on not just social networking websites, but also political and administrative bodies in general.

But despite the mosaic of positive and not so positive feedback, Aamir is a happy man. “The effort we have put on the show is positive and the change in the society has been evident. We have received a dream response, having empowered ourselves with knowledge. It has been very difficult for us to review our work. So many things have happened which made it difficult for our research team to revisit the field to see the actual impact we have created. Having said that, I must also add that we have got many positive reviews. We believe that India is changing and we have adapted the show to the kind of changes people want to see,” he says.
Many youngsters have been writing to Aamir and the channel asking them to address the issue of parental pressure to get married at a certain age. Reacting to that, Aamir says, “Over the years the concept of marriage has changed for the better. Marriage is now looked upon as companionship. As parents, we should empower our children so they can make their own decisions. The thought of marriage shouldn’t be associated with fear. We should provide ample support to our kids and teach them to live happily.”
Aamir is certain that the show has managed to bring about a definite change and there have been incidents to support his belief. “Recently, at a Delhi wedding, when a guest blessed the bride to give birth to a son, others pointed out that a girl child is equally welcome,” he says.
“People told me the show would be a failure, but now people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari are associated with the show and want to see a change in the society. The healthcare episode has helped improve generic medicines. All I am saying is that, this is a good time and we should use this opportunity to plan and contribute the most,” he adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
