Weaving tales with few cubes
It was Sunday Soul Sante in Bengaluru. Despite reviewing the other wares on offer with a decidedly prejudiced eye (courtesy a daughter who was exhibiting her hand painted tees), there was much to marvel at.
For Rs 499, I’ve been introduced to the heady world of Rory’s Story Cubes. The packaging is magnificent. An outer sleeve contains a jewel case like box which houses the nine snugly fitted cubes and an instruction booklet. Roll the nine die with 54 images. Begin your story with “Once upon a time …” starting with the first symbol that grabs your eye. Tell a story that links together all nine face-up images. This non-competitive game for one or more players is profoundly moving. My first story was a simple tale. With each subsequent throw of the die, the stories grew more layered. The brain connects visual imagery. Storytelling comes to us naturally. Rory’s Story Cubes help fire the imagination and weave a fluent narrative. A powerful idea generator tool. A must-use training device!
