Webcerts take music beyond boundaries

Now you don’t have to be present at the venue to watch your favourite bands perform live as www.artistaloud.com has come up with an innovative and unique concept to help fans cherish music in the comfort of their home, office, well, anywhere.
Independent music promoters, www.artistaloud.com recently launched a series of monthly concerts, which would feature some of India’s most celebrated indie-artistes.
Termed as Webcerts, the first web-based concert took place at the Xtreme Sports Bar in Gurgaon recently with Indian rock pioneers Parikrama and Rishab Srivastava, and was a huge hit among both fans and musicians. “Considering the importance of digital media and its growing fan base in the capital we capitalised on it. As we are promoting indie-music, we came up with this concept,” opines Soumini Paul, general manager of artistaloud.com.
Being one of the pioneers to use digital media, Parikrama always had a similar concept in mind, and when they were approached to be a part of the do, they couldn’t refuse. “We have been very active on the Internet for many years now. We knew and in fact, predicted quite a few things that are happening today in the music business almost 15 years back, and this is one of them. This gig is big for us because people in at least 9 countries including US and Spain watched us perform, and on that basis they would decide if we could tour their country,” avers Subir Mallik, founder member of Parikrama. He also added that though nothing can replace the feel and energy of a live concert, Webcert is just another urban tool to take the whole music business to a different level. “For a musician performing live is the ultimate satisfaction. But with this, musicians would be able to go international thus broadening their fan base beyond boundaries,” he adds.
“The idea is not to replace any conventional model like live concerts but to give another option for fans. More importantly, considering the ongoing rainy season, we thought this to be a perfect time to launch Webcerts,” concludes Soumini.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
