What is Feel the Music project?
They say that music heals the soul. Perhaps that's precisely what was on the mind of musicians from the prestigious Mahler Chamber Orchestra, which has taken many hearing impaired children from various cities in Europe as a part of its “Feel the Music” project. The initiative is a part of Beethoven’s Journey concert series.
The project is aimed at exposing hearing-impaired children to the world of music. It will trace the way Beethoven’s deafness began when he was in his early 20s and how he went on to become a legendary pianist. In India too, similar efforts are on with hearing and speech impaired children. Music therapy has caught on in many schools across the country. Various research studies have shown that music has a deep impact on children’s mind and bears a lot of importance on the functioning of the brain. Dr T.V. Sairam, well-known music therapist says that every person is made up of rhythms and pattern. “Understanding an ailment and then devising a musical solution is extremely challenging as every child may have a different approach to music.” Therefore, one has to understand the musical preferences of a person and then decide which genre of music would work for them. Often soulful and serene chants have worked for people.”
Dr Sairam feels versions of Feel the Music project should be organised in India as it could go a long way in healing the world with music.
