What makes them starve?

life11081.JPG

Not just young adults, girls in their pre-teens too seem to have been bitten by the size-zero bug, according to a recent survey. From a tender age of 11 and 12, girls are skipping vital meals such as breakfast and lunch to confirm to a

Westernised notion of beauty. Figures suggest that nearly 50 per cent girls consume very little iron and protein, which makes them all the more susceptible to illnesses such as anaemia.
Says Uma Singh, a Class 9 student, “One of my overweight friends nearly starved herself for over three months to lose weight. She hardly used to eat anything besides biscuits and soups. She did manage to lose weight but also ended up looking rather skeletal. However, she has become a role model for many in our class who still try to emulate her.”
Peer pressure is a prime factor driving such harmful trends feels nutritionist Dr Sunita Dube. “I had a teenage patient who was obsessed with obtaining a thin figure because she wanted to look like one of her cousins who was naturally thin. Unfortunately, she had a broad structure that stood in her way. But she became so obsessed that she needed expert counseling towards the end. Young girls need to understand that teenage flab is natural and their bodies need to go through certain hormonal changes. They should not arbitrarily deprive themselves of nutrients. ”

Who should Obama feel scared of?
Barely two years after being appointed as the President of the United States, Barrack Obama is now faced with the tirades of an anti-Obama campaign that seems to be rapidly gathering force. After a series of virals and videos screaming opposition messages, it’s now a website that intends to add fuel to the fire. The super Political Action Committee of a Tea Party group has recently registered domain names www.helpfireobama.com and www.wefireobama.com to oppose the President’s re-election. The PAC group, known for their grassroot activism, has pledged to support only limited government conservatives. Already the websites, that are fast becoming popular, are posing a huge threat to the President. The group has also registered five candidates to compete in the 2012 elections. Now he better pray for the “change” he so ardently believed in at the time of getting elected.

Why will Kim pay for her own ring?
After making headlines with one of the world’s fastest divorces, Kim Kardashian will do the unthinkable by lightening her wallet to pay for her own engagement ring. Turns out the socialite loves the 20.5 carat diamond so much that to keep it she is willing to pay Kris Humphries some serious amount which could run into approximately $2 million.
Under ordinary circumstances Kim would have been a natural keeper of the ring, but it was all because of a pre-nuptial clause that she had included, which has subjected her to this extravagant ordeal.

Where can brown eyes turn blue?
Those who want to turn their deep brown eyes into a dazzling shade of blue needn’t go in search for the perfect shade of contact lenses. Instead, just head to Laguna Beach, California where Dr Gregg Homer has been working wonders with his specially tuned laser treatment that changes the pigment of one’s eyes from brown to blue.
The procedure takes about two to three weeks and is estimated to cost around $5,000. However, the eye-experts fraternity are yet to give the procedure a clean chit, because the long term effects of such surgeries are still unknown.

When is the baby jumping fest?
This could well be one of the most dangerous festivals of the world. Held in the month of May, a Spanish tradition titled the El Colacho Festival (the devil’s jump), involves men, dressed as devils, jumping over babies born in the past 12 months, in a bid to cleanse them of sin and protect them from evil spirits.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
