When did a virtual choir perform?
Earlier this week. Grammy Award-winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir project has connected people from all over the world to come together for a truly ambitious idea. Taking singers of all ages and putting them on one stage, a virtual one, was an inspired idea, and one that comes to life with stunning results.
The idea first came to Whitacre in 2009 when he came across the YouTube video of a fan, Britlin Losee, singing the soprano part of his a cappella piece, Sleep. Whitacre understood that if enough singers recorded their respective parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) separately, they could all be mixed together to create a Virtual Choir.
While his first project consisted of 250 YouTube submissions, his latest one, Virtual Choir 4, Fly to Paradise is comprised of 8,049 video submissions from singers aged six to 98 from 101 countries, reported Mashable.
Whitacre stated on his website that it has truly become a global choir.
