In a celebration honouring the most gifted glam girls of rock, Divas of Rock is an event many youngsters across the country are looking forward to on July 6. Bengaluru is the destination for most rock enthusiasts on this day.

Many attended the event last year. Manisha Bhattacharya, the vice president of a leading MNC says, “I went to the event last year with no expectations. I thought it will be just another karaoke night. It was an amazing night. I had taken a few colleagues and visitors from overseas. Everyone had a blast. There was a huge variety of music and I am hoping that this will be the case for the second edition this year as well.”
This year, the performing artistes are Shkabang, Alisha Pais and Allegro Fudge. Alisha Pais, a singer-songwriter says, “I am very excited particularly because this is the first time I am performing in Bengaluru. It is fantastic that this is a concert all about women. I will be singing a few originals and my take on some covers.” It is not very often that we see a concert for female artistes. Most concerts have only one or two women performing their acts.
Shalini, the bass guitarist of Allegro Fudge says, “We hope that many women come out and let their hair down. Our vocalist Saahas Patil has a way with the women. His looks and his voice are very popular with the women.” These rock bands are selected by Rolling Stones. The famous Viva band’s musician Anushka Manchanda is part of Shkabang. Anushka says, “We’re playing to a new crowd, so that’s always fun. I’m anxious and excited to see what kind of reactions we’ll get from Bengaluru. I’m also happy to have Sapana playing drums with us. Now that’s going to be awesome. We’re going to play a one-hour non-stop, zero break, electronic dance set.”
This event facilitates a platform to discover the sparkling and most promising talent. “We believe that women form a big part of our travel segment. We want to engage potential consumers in a different activity. Like last year, this show starts in Whitefield and goes across the country,” says Mahesh Aaiyer, general manager of Vivanta by Taj, Whitefield.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
