When does EDM mania happen?

It was more of a question of ‘will they, won’t they?’ and when they finally did perform, they brought the House down. Swedish House Mafia turned up the frenzy among Gen Y and now looks like a barrage of EDM artistes are going to perform.
There is a strong buzz on social media platforms and online fora that Skrillex, Avicii and Armin Van Buuren will perform in India. DJ-ing sensation Tiesto is also set to take the crowds by storm here. Manasi Parakh, an accounts student in Mumbai is super kicked about Avicii, “The past two odd years have seen a huge change in music preferences and EDM is easily the most popular amongst youngsters. I read somewhere how India is being recognised for its strong preference for EDM and with these artistes coming, its better for us.”
Partygoers have much reason to celebrate. Metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru are the most preferred places anyway, even Pune is gaining popularity as a party destination mainly because of the student population. Vidushi Arora, a student at Pune says, “Earlier, this used to be such a dead city but now, we are also getting a good share of artistes and crowds. It feels good to patronise big stars.”
The focus is slowly turning onto India because of the dynamic music scene. Its not just the bigwigs like AR Rahman and Anoushka Shankar who are making a name internationally. Several local artistes, DJs are collaborating globally and hence, make India more viable as a concert venue. DJ Harish says, “I have been invited to play at international festivals and have shared the platform with Tiesto. We cannot obviously compare the standards of presentation but now, we must pride on the fact that Indian DJs are atleast getting noticed.” True to his observation, some of our biggest DJs have received acclaim for opening big concerts. DJs Anish Sood, Arjun Vagale and Tuhin Mehta are being reckoned nationally for sharing space with accomplished artistes. It’s a win-win after all!
