When does the season of awards begin?

It’s that time of the year when it is raining awards. Youngsters across the country are waiting with bated breath to know the best film and best actor amongst the many awards this weekend. Exams, work and other chores for that day come to a halt in order to watch Oscars, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild, to name a few. The awards will be screened in January end and February.
The hosts of these ceremonies are a big attraction for many to catch the show. “I am really looking forward to a laugh riot thanks to hosts of many of the award ceremonies. The hosts always leave me in splits,” says Akshay Kukreja, a student. As for the Oscars, the show was to be hosted by Eddie Murphy. But, after Brett Ratner resigned as producer Murphy also stepped down. “This was the best news we received. I love the new host Billy Crystal,” says Juhi Roddam, a student. Roshni Hormusjee, a rugby player adds, “The most entertaining thing about the Oscars is the small film that the hosts put together. I thoroughly enjoyed it last year.”
Many compare their predictions of winners to the final results. This year most predictions are in favour of The Adventure of Tintin. Roshni says, “I loved Tintin. In the categories it gets nominated for, it will definitely bag those prizes.” But, Juhi believes, “The Help and Hugo were just the best films ever and should certainly win awards.” Akshay says, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Hangover Part II are three films that I can watch reruns of.”
Past award ceremonies have been rather exciting for many. “The year before last, the whole AR Rahman hype at the Oscars got me very excited and I made sure I caught those bits. James Franco and Anne Hathaway provided a good deal of humour last year,” says Vikram Raman, investment banking professional.
The charisma, glamour, personal favourites in terms of stars and well choreographed performances is what keeps the youth glued to these awards. Akshay says, “One of the award ceremonies overlap with the centenary celebration of the industry, making it a must watch for sure.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
