When is Drogba in India?

Youngsters across the country are looking forward to a rendezvous with Ivory Coast and Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. On June 16, these young guns head to the capital to rub shoulders with the football legend.

Dylon Pinto, an entrepreneur from Bengaluru says, “Didier is the ultimate footballer. At 32, he reaches his peak again. To watch him do his classic moves in person will be wow! I want to see him do his usual thing after he scores a goal. He raises his hand and goes hysterical on the field.”
Didier is currently the talk of the town for the victory goal he made in the Champions League finals. “To bring him at such a time, after such a massive win is even better. People are looking up to him and his potential,” says Suhas Chandran, a network and security engineer from Mysore.
This is a win-win for Drogba and India. Joseph Rao, a CA student says, “It gives young footballers in our country some exposure. This sees the beginning of ties between English and Indian football clubs. Lots of Indians have idols in the English Premier League.”
This legendary moments will be marked as a historical event in the country. Dylon says, “Bringing such big names to India helps increase the fan base of the game. People who don’t know anything about football develop an interest in the game. The rest of the world will find out about India. Everyone will talk about what he did in Delhi.”
Youngsters are excited to catch this celebrity footballer because he has a reputation of being humble even off the field. Joseph says, “The good thing about Drogba is that even off the field he is an amazing person. Very recently, he gave £3 million for a hospital in Ivory Coast. That is such a kind gesture.”
Young football enthusiasts look at this moment as an opportunity to improve their game as many consider him the current god of football. Suhas says, “He will give footballers tips on how to better their game. Drogba can interact with the Indian footballers that are already established and those that play gully football as well. India needs to see such footballers who motivates the country’s players and will tell them that they will reach great heights. It is nice to have such footballers come and see the potential of Indian players as well.”

Who is going bananas as an artist?
For one rather inventive artist, bananas represent the perfect canvas on which to recreate some of the world’s most iconic paintings. Armed with a push-pin and a banana, multimedia artist Phil Hansen has produced a number of eye-catching creations using a method similar to pointillism. Hansen’s works are just so detailed that it’s hard to believe all he uses to create them is a common pushpin and the banana’s natural oxidation process. The talented artist just punctures the peel repeatedly with the pushpin and the banana, and as the banana browns, his intricate designs are revealed.

Where is the similar dressing couple?
Joey and Mel Schwanke wear matching outfits since 35 years. The 81-year-old Fremont resident and her husband use their matching outfits to enhance their relationship, which has been going strong for 65 years. They are together 24 hours of the day, at work and at home. Joey Schwanke picks out the ensembles, which often have a floral theme, because the couple owns and operates a successful flower shop in Fremont. They joke that they are connected with velcro because they do everything together. The two have 146 custom-made matching outfits which typically match Joey’s dress with Mel’s tie.

Why did Ashley die on her birthday?
While celebrating her birthday over the weekend, a California girl was shot and killed. Ashley Caldera and her friends were waiting for another friend in Fontana Park when two young men reportedly approached the group after getting out of a car and asked them where they were from. The frightened girls reportedly ran, but Caldera fell and the men opened fire, shooting and killing her. As Caldera lay there dying, her friend, 17-year-old Jasmine Dominguez said that she held her hand, trying to comfort her. She had just turned 16 and was looking forward to getting her driver’s license. A Facebook page, “RIP Ashley Ann Caldera” was created in her memory and friends and family came together at the park to remember the fallen teen.

What hit Susan on her head?
If Susan Westerfield wants to take a swing at the golfer who knocked a hole in her mouth, it is understandable, even though it was just an accident. Susan was riding her Harley past Indian Hills Golf Club in Murfreesboro in Tennessee, when she was struck in the face by an unidentified golfer’s ball. Although she was wearing a helmet, it did not have a protective face guard. Amazingly, she was able to keep from crashing even though the ball knocked out several of her teeth and sliced her lip. Susan’s nerve damage is so severe that she cannot feel anything in her mouth, including pain.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
