When no means yes

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and the pressure is on for guys with girlfriends/wives. Should you leave the hoo-ha to the teens in the throes of puppy love? Or should you pull out all the stops for a romantic evening for two? Things would be so much simpler if the ladies would just spell out exactly what they want. But the girls will have you thinking it’s no big deal. In this classic case of when ‘No’ means ‘Yes’ here’s some advice from the guys.
Sandalwood actor Prajwal Devaraj isn’t buying the whole ‘I don’t care about V-Day’ story. The youngster says, “She might say that it’s too filmi, but which girl is going to say no to a candlelight dinner for two on a yacht?” That’s the actor’s idea of a perfect V-Day. “For us guys, it’s a chance to make a fantasy come true,” he adds.
DJ Asif advises, “I’d like to tell all guys — if she says she doesn’t want anything for V-Day, don’t believe her!” He cautions against overkill though. “I wouldn’t go over the top if she says she doesn’t celebrate it. I’d just play a remix dedicated to her. In fact, the more girls I can patao, the better. Who says you can have only one Valentine?” he adds with a laugh.
The real reason why girls say no is to give guys a chance to surprise them, feels model Aroon Pemmaiah. “Give her the perfect dress, and a girl doesn’t need any other excuse to go out,” he says.
The one thing they all agree on is that V-Day is strictly for the ladies. Techie Anjan S says, “I’m planning to get my girlfriend a puppy. It’s definitely going to be a surprise because she thinks we’re skipping V-Day this year.” The engineer adds, “I have no plans of doing so. It’s one day in the year, lads. Put in a bit of hard work and the brownie points you get will get you through the rest of the year!”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
