When is Superman back?

Is it a bird, is it a plane? It’s Superman! Those words unravelled a magical world for most of us while we were growing up. Marvel’s superhero Superman is back to enthrall us in a new avatar. Even as the trailers of Man of Steel are making waves online, a whole generation of superhero fans are excited.

There are several things to look forward to in this flick. With the Batman trilogy, many thought Christopher Nolan’s tryst with superheroes was over. But with the ace film maker producing this flick, there is bound to be high expectations. Riti Hamza, an accounts student and a diehard superhero fan says, “I have been waiting for a Superman flick to be made. I watched the Man of Steel trailer a couple of days back and I love how beautifully its made! This is going to be one amazing film.”
Released alongside The Hobbit, the trailer is already creating a buzz, leaving little to imagination how impressive the movie will be. “Nolan can be trusted to infuse larger than life elements,” says film maker Sai Ramesh, adding, “Henry Cavill looks promising. He has huge shoes to fill as Superman onscreen.”
Apart from a riveting soundtrack, courtesy music guru Hans Zimmer, the clipping doesn’t reveal much about the story and keeps the suspense intact. With this film, an interesting trend can be observed. Film makers are going all out to make a trailer as exciting as the film itself. Since production value and quality has increased by leaps and bounds in the film industry, the fans expect a certain calibre in theatrical trailers too. “I actually saw the Man of Steel promo before Skyfall, on Imax,” reveals Vishesh B, a publicist. “I like how these promos build the anticipation. It’s like watching the movie itself, but with no spoilers. It makes me feel like I’m getting my money’s worth.”
Notwithstanding, this is an emotional moment for fans after the tragic demise of Christoopher Reeves who played Superman before his accident. Renu Mathias, a dance instructor says, “Superman was a hero to all of us and Reeves was a true hero. No matter what, it will be a little nostalgic to watch Man of Steel onscreen.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
