When was the Maldon Mud race held?
Around 300 entrants were ready to get not just their hands dirty, for the annual Maldon Mud Race in eastern England on Sunday. The competitors scampered through 400 yards of thick muck and many of them were even dressed in their best costumes.
The race was quite a challenge, as the contestants found it grueling to walk across the sludge, as it kept pulling them down. The winner of the race, was 39-year-old John Edgington, according to The Telegraph. He had to run across cold water and foul-smelling mud to reach the town of Maldon. He managed to win the race in 3 minutes and 15 seconds — a new world record!
The event saw many participants in its 2012 edition where they, according to the official website, “raised in excess of £70,000 of which £46,000 has already been distributed with further donations being made to nearly 70 charities.” The event even judged people based on their ‘fancy dress’. The organisers claim that this is one of the ‘toughest events on the planet.’ Probably, the dirtiest too!
