When was the world’s largest flag unfurled?
Earlier this week, at a Romanian airfield breaking the previous record held by Lebanon.
Weighing five tones, the flag measures 1,145 feet by 744 feet, and was sewn with 44 miles of thread. 200 volunteers rolled the record-breaking flag out in Clinceni, near Bucharest to claim the Guinness Record successfully, reported The Daily Mail.
The area covered was nearly three times the size of a football pitch, and volunteers had to weigh it down to keep it in place. A lot of time was taken to keep the red, blue and yellow fabric flat so that it could be precisely measured.
A military band played at the occasion with full pomp and ceremony as the Prime Minister Victor Ponta and other ministers arrived at the location to witness the record-breaking event. The flag, which covers 79,000 sq ft area, took weeks to sew together, according to Adrian Dragomir, manager of Flags Factory. An adjudicator for Guinness World Records confirmed that the new world record had been accomplished.
