When will the Film Harvest begin?
Bengaluru is the destination for film enthusiasts from March 16 to 20. The city will see the first edition of the non-competitive international Film Harvest 2012. The festival aims to showcase art inspired by art. Art inspired by movies and music inspired by movies will be a part of this five-day festival in namma city.
“The theme is social responsibility. Everyone knows UB City as a luxury destination. It is also a place where you can meet art and culture. We want to bring to film lovers international films of different languages,” says Uzma Irfan, the festival chairperson.
Girish says, “Kanasemba Kudureyaneri is my latest film. It is a film that moves away from the contemporary style of filmmaking. It does not flow in the conventional beginning, middle and end order. It is a dream of a person that unfolds.” Girish is also the festival director. He adds, “Having a film festival in a shopping mall is an attempt to bring it to the masses. Many malls might get inspired and take the initiative next.” To this, Uzma adds, “We want to recreate the drive-in and open-air theatre concept. We are having the screenings in the amphitheatre.”
Thoroughly smitten by Karnataka’s film culture is Sunil Sukthankar from Pune who is bringing Ha Bharat Maza. “We like Kannada films and the film culture in Bengaluru thanks to Girishji. The cultural atmosphere of Bengaluru is very similar to Pune. This is a realistic kind of fiction and also has a spiritual take on corruption,” says Sunil. The film is a zero budget film.
An element of the festival showcases music inspired by movies. “There will be a concert performed by an orchestra. We have taken 21 cult classic film scores from 1910 to 2010. While the orchestra performs these tunes, a large screen will showcase visuals of these songs. Lion King, Titanic, Godfather are some of the films songs that we have touched upon,” says Ricky Kej, a music director who is also the festival curator. This is definitely a first concert of its kind.
Apart from the many filmmakers, to represent the art inspired by movies, Hari Adivarekar and Soraya will showcase their art work. “Hari is a photographer whose collection is inspired by directors like Steven Spielberg and Guru Dutt to name a few. Soraya is a digital artist who is inspired by cinema as a whole,” says Ricky.
