Where is marijuana usage going to be celebrated?
In Denver and Seattle, where partygoers will celebrate the legalisation of marijuana possession.
It’s one of the most controversial moves in years, but the decision by the states of Colorado and Washington to limit restrictions on marijuana usage last year has led to cannabis-related celebrations of the decision!
According to The Daily Mail, the iconic City Centre Park in Denver will witness close to 50,000 people light up and smoke amidst the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Even more startling will be the staging of the Cannabis Cup, a two-day event where marijuana producers shall be awarded prizes for the best varieties! One of the fest highlights that includes music and comedy will be a performance by none other than Snoop Dogg, himself a great advocate of drug usage.
In Seattle too, pro-marijuana magazine, DOPE, shall host the DOPE Cup where producers will compete for honours. This, however, doesn’t mean an open license for all tourists. The drug still remains illegal without a doctor’s prescription, although Colorado allows people over 21 to possess upto an ounce of cannabis — only to consume in private. Washington also allows similar provisions, but has deemed growing marijuana in one’s home as illegal. The laws have also faced opposition, none more vocal than Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper who said he was frustrated that he was bound by the democratic process.
