Mesmereyes Make-up, a brand started by Akriti is all about making sure women today are groomed to their best. Akriti speaks about her love for helping people look and feel great!

On her interest in cosmetics
I was born and brought up in Chennai, did my schooling in Lady Andal and pursued an International Business degree from the University of Manchester. Never did I imagine something as petty as “makeup” would make me look and feel like a million bucks! I experienced this when I visited the M.A.C store in England, not knowing head or tale about makeup! I was like a lost puppy — the makeup brushes resembled deadly weapons and the staff working there looked prim and proper with their perfect pout. Just as I was about to take and about turn, a lady approached me and politely offered to give me a makeover. It was from then that my curiosity in makeup grew stronger and it eventually became my career.
Apart from being a bridal make-up artist, I work with Hindustan Unilever as the Beauty Blogger for their website- www.bebeautiful.in. Through Be Beautiful, I got the opportunity to attend the Ponds Femina Miss India Pagent across India and the Lakme Fashion Week. I’ve also recently signed a deal with UTV-Disney who are going to be producing and marketing makeup videos on my own YouTube Channel — akritisachdev which will be launched shortly!

Mesmereyes(ing) make-up
Mesmereyes Makeup focuses on enhancing your natural beauty without looking “made up”. It’s about highlighting those features that work for you rather than masking your face and looking like a completely different person. Indian women are blessed with some of the most stunning features which can be accentuated with makeup. I wish I could walk up to every woman and tell her how a particular makeup technique could work in her favour! Mesmereyes Makeup has been set up by me to equip women and educate them with all the makeup knowledge they need to be on top of the game.

Top 5 tips:
1. Invest in a good set of brushes! (They last a life time)
2. Own a concealer, it can do wonders to brighten up your face!
3. Don’t pile on the blush. Less is more.
4. Always remove the remaining traces of kaajal before going to bed.
5. Licking your lips will only make them drier!

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
