Elle Cynthia Jordan: Cindy’s grand daughter

53-year-old Cindy Reutzel is literally a one-of-a kind grandmother. After hearing that her daughter could not give birth she stepped up and decided to give her daughter something she couldn't have—a baby. Cindy became a surrogate mother for her daughter and gave birth to her own grandchild.

Cindy's daughter Emily Jordan was diagnosed with cervical cancer two years ago when she was just 29 years old. When she was about to get a hysterectomy done, her husband and she discovered that she was pregnant. In an attempt to save her own life, the cost paid was that of her unborn baby’s. Chances of ever conceiving again were down to nil after the procedure.
“I can't describe what it was like —finding out that you have cancer after finding out that your chance of ever carrying a baby is gone,” Emily was quoted as saying.
After hearing many success stories of older women conceiving and the positive possibilities of in-vitro fertilisation, Cindy couldn’t stand by and not do anything; she offered to carry her daughter’s baby for her.
It wasn’t an easy procedure. It involved regular hormonal injections and visits to the doctors, but Cindy was determined to stay committed. Her body seemed to handle the pregnancy much better than she had expected. A few days after Emily’s 32nd birthday, her mother delivered a beautiful baby girl named Elle Cynthia Jordan. Emily swears the baby looks so much like her mother and the couple is ecstatic about their newborn.
“I want Emily to have that connection with another human being like I had with her. I know I gave a gift. But I'm also getting so much in return.” Cindy was quoted saying.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
