Who is Nithya Shanti?

Nithya Shanti aka Ven Nyanasanti Bhikki is an internationally recognised spiritual teacher who is renowned for his work that blends the wisdom of ancient scriptures with contemporary issues, and acts as a guideline for one to live in both a state of awareness as well as contentment.
“An interest in inner growth and spirituality from an early age inspired him to study with many wise teachers and awakened masters. Not content with intellectual understanding alone, he began a daily practice of meditation at the age of sixteen and attended many meditation retreats,” his website describes him. Nithya Shanti has an MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur and even worked in the corporate sector. But a quest for spirituality led him to become a Buddhist monk in 2002.
After becoming a monk, Nithya Shati spent six years in a forest monastery in meditation in Thailand, Sri Lanka and India and the US. But in 2008, Nithya Shanti, stepped out of the robes and turned into a spiritual guru who shares joyful teachings in happiness joyshops, youth programs, corporate trainings and meditation retreats around the world.
Nithya Shanti shares his insights around the world in universities, corporate and non-governmental organisations and coaches CEOs, senior government officials and school teachers, and taught these principles at international conferences as well as in prisons.
“His work is orchestrated by the Nithya Shanti Foundation, a not for proft organisation, with the purpose of re-awakening a heart based, earth conscious culture based on wisdom and joy,” his website informs. Nithya Shanti’s popularity has been on the rise even on facebook where his updates and Notes are looked forward to by many!

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
