Who will get the Golden Boot?

This World Cup is proving to be a surprise package for footie fans across the world, especially after the two so-called top teams France and Italy crashed out of the tournament this week.
Ardent fans who are still to recover from that shock say that they have taken solace in the fact that the some ‘dark horses’ like Slovakia, South Korea and Japan have managed to knock out giants.
While the action on the field continues to have fans glued to their television sets, the one question that is on everyone’s mind is: Who will win the Golden Boot?
“Adidas’ Jabulani has not been easy to tackle, but I think players like David Villa and Mesut Ozul have done really well. I’m rooting for one of them to bag the coveted boot,” says Shrijith Nair, a chartered accountant.
On the other hand, Prajeev T., has a slightly different choice. “I think it will have to be Gonzalo Higuain, who scored the first hattrick in this year’s Fifa World Cup,” he says.
Meanwhile, there is another section of fans, who feel that one of the players, who are not the traditional favourites must bag the boot. “I think Slovakia’s Vittek deserves the Golden Boot for his performance against Italy. It was simply mind-blowing,” says Bharat H., an MBA student.
“As of now, it’s Argentina’s Gonzalo Higuain running first in the list because of his stupendous performance against South Korea, but I have a feeling that Luis Fabiano of Brazil could be a tough competitor,” says Raoul M. The discussions seem to have just begun, but as the competition gets fierce by the day, fans can be guaranteed of one thing for sure — this is something none of them will forget in a long time to come.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
