Why are Calvin & Hobbes fans excited?
The Watterson documentary is all set to release in November this year!
He was arguably the one comic artist who had the most profound effect on readers across the globe, his quips and doodles awakening the inner child in millions. Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin and Hobbes, gave it his all, dominating newspapers around the world, even today, with strips of Calvin’s adventures with his beloved stuffed tiger. But in 1995, Watterson ended the comic, leaving a void in the newspaper reading lives of devoted readers.
Since then, Watterson has kept an extremely low profile, living a very private life outside of Cleveland, Ohio. But what has his impact been on popular culture and influences?
That’s what Dear Mr Watterson seeks to tell us. The documentary showcases the story behind the man and the making of the comic strip.
It explores the art and impact of Bill Watterson through this unique perspective, the legendary fandom and love of CnH will be shown in the anecdotes, stories, and memories shared by readers of the strip and friends and colleagues of Mr. Watterson.
The film’s Kickstarter campaign has raised more than 200 per cent of the target of $12,000, and was successfully funded. Director Joel Schroeder says that the film is not a quest to find Watterson or invade his privacy, but merely an attempt to root CnH’s legacy and to pay a tribute to the illustrator. The documentary has been screened at several prestigious film festivals already to critical acclaim.
Dear Mr Watterson, we love you!
