Those who thought shaved heads were less attractive and older-looking, here is a disclosure of sorts — men with shaved heads are more confident and assertive. According to a research paper published in Social Psychological and Personality Science, men with shaved heads are actually viewed as more masculine and dominant. They were also viewed as having greater potential as leaders.

And bald men cannot agree less. Content writer Nishant Nayyar, who shaved his head on his ex’s insistence almost a year back, can’t seem to thank her enough. “My new look definitely boosted my confidence. Bald men never go unnoticed. Girls find them attractive and people remember you. It’s a compliment in itself. Also many strong characters in our films flaunt a bald head and people tend to relate bald with sturdy,” says Nishant.
During his NIFT days, designer Samant Chauhan wanted a makeover and the changed look got him loads of compliments. He says, “Initially it was to make a style statement but I loved my look so much that I have decided to stay bald for the rest of my life. My wife Romsha also likes my bald avatar. It has become my identity. Morever, the look brought in some positive changes in my behaviour. Now I don’t think twice before taking a bold step.”
It was an experiment for musician Lokesh Madan, founder of the band Eka, around a decade back, but he loved his look so much that he has not looked back since then. “Bald is handsome, my then girlfriend and now wife had said. A bald look is not for everybody. Not everybody can pull it off and those who do are definitely head-turners. It felt so good then and it feels more good now,” reveals Lokesh.
And it’s not just men, girls too feel that bald is sexy and cool. As being in a relationship with someone who’s been bald by choice for seven years now, Rashmi Verma, a finance professional, feels quite proud while walking with him. She adds, “Bald men look a little tough and rugged. It automatically gives you a sense of protectiveness. No one dares glance at me when I am with him. About being a leader, I don’t think he is one, but the baldness sure makes his leadership qualities more believable.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
