Why is One Direction sporting kits?
The Boy Band has just announced a world tour, and could not think of a better way to commemorate the occasion than by slipping into football jerseys of different countries to indicate their popularity across the globe.
Details of their massive Where We Are Tour 2014 was unveiled at the Wembley Stadium in London, followed by the boys trying out different strips of national football teams, just to make sure their worldwide fan base was kept satisfied.
First up was England, with Niall Horan opting for his own country’s Irish strip, followed by Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and so on. The group initially shot to fame on the reality show X Factor, and has since become a global phenomenon since their debut in 2011, having sold more than 30 million records in more than 35 countries.
The stadium tour in 2014 will include five UK and Ireland dates and eight in Latin America, according to the One Direction website. The band stressed that they are all huge football fans and added that further shows on the world tour would be announced at a later date.
Horan said, “We’re incredibly excited to announce we’re doing a worldwide stadium tour in 2014. We’re three years into it (being a band), so stepping out to an audience of 65,000 a night is incredible,” reported The Daily Mail.
