Why is red the sexiest colour?
Paint the town red, because that, in fact, is considered the hottest colour. Studies have found that it is a powerful colour with which to attract a mate, women who sport red in their profile pictures being more successful than others in getting a date from a website.
According to Medical Daily, women tend to wear red, especially during ovulation in the hope of attracting men. “It’s only recently that psychologists and researchers in other disciplines have been looking closely and systematically at the relationship between colour and behaviour,” Andrew Elliot, professor of psychology at the University of Rochester, was quoted as saying.
“Much is known about colour physics and colour physiology, but very little about colour psychology. It’s fascinating to find that something as ubiquitous as colour can be having an effect on our
behaviour without our awareness.” In his experiment, subjects preferred the lady in red, even though two photos of the same woman were shown — one of her in red and the other in another colour.
“Our research demonstrates a parallel in the way that human and non-human male primates respond to red,” concluded Elliot and his co-researcher Daniela Niesta. “In doing so, our findings confirm what many women have long suspected and claimed — that men act like animals in the sexual realm. As much as men might like to think that they respond to women in a thoughtful, sophisticated manner, it appears that at least to some degree, their preferences and predilections are, in a word, primitive.” Red being the colour of rubies and roses, it’s hard to disagree with the fact that crimson sure does grab everyone’s attention.
