The wow brow
From the brushed up, boyish versions seen on the Antonio Berardi and Carolina Herrera runways, to the shapely yet full ones sported by Rooney Mara and Natalie Portman, brows are now making a statement. Shweta Bhatia, beauty expert, Revlon shares tips on how to get a stylish eyebrow.
Thick is in
The new brow style is thicker, bolder and brushed up as compared to the past nice and natural looking arch. Thicker brows are in vogue but you should shape them in such a manner that they look natural and enthralling. The darker the brows, the better they look. Salma Hayek and Kajol’s eyes speak volumes.
Raising eyebrows
Here are some eyebrow trends that are easy to ape:
Brushed up brows: As a trend, this style sticks, namely because brushed-up brows make normal arches look thicker, which is a sign of youth and lends a sporty look.
Thicker brows: The messy brow is back. Well, not too messy. To achieve this look keep the lowest row of brow hair unshaped to create a slightly messy line.
The bold look: This dramatic look can be achieved with a pencil for a severe look, or softly shaded with a darker brow shadow for a softer feel.
As full and almost angular brows are the latest fashion, with the help of just a little combing and pencil, you can create bold and bigger brows. But for those who plucked their brows out during the “grunge phase” don’t be disheartened as it takes only about 12 weeks for the eyebrows to return to their natural shape. During this time, I would recommend growing the hair back one row at a time for a gradual thickness.
Tips to get the perfect brow shape
To soften a strong arch, concentrate on the area that is the thickest part of the brow (closest to your nose) and starts to thin out into the tail section. By filling in this area and encouraging re-growth, you will create a more youthful shape. As brow shape starts in line with the inner corner of your eye. To find the finishing point, trace a diagonal line from the tip of your nose through the outer corner of your eye, noting where it transects the brow line.
When penciling in, use a light touch, feathering the area so as not to create a heavy block of colour. For a natural finish, use pencils in two similar shades. The light and dark tones will create the effect of natural highlights. To formulate naturally thick eyebrows, use a sharp eyebrow pencil and move it following the natural structure. Hide parts that are not covered with hair, with brow powder of a lighter shade than the natural brow colour and you’re all set.
