Write route to romance
Thirty one-year-old management graduate and a share market trader, Mahi Jay, spent all her life reading romantic novels. Despite having a set career path, she was inspired to take up writing as a passion. Mahi has recently written Falling For a Bollywood Legend, a book for Mills & Boon.
Talking about her first attempt at writing, Mahi says, “During my growing up years, my mother actively encouraged me to read. I was always holed up inside the house with a book in my hands and a dreamy smile on my face. I used to make my own stories but it never struck me until much later that I should put words to my thoughts. Funny, it seems a simple enough jump now but it took me time to realise that I wanted to do it and that I actually could.”
A shift from management to writing was not difficult for the writer. “Writing is something I have to do. I don’t think of it as a job. I will continue with my management job too,” she clears.
A supporting husband made this shift easier for Mahi. “My husband was fantastic throughout out this whole process. He was so proud that I was doing something I’d set my heart upon that he was happy to offer his unstinting support,” she says.
Mahi shares, “I’ve signed another book deal with Harlequin. Beyond that I want to try my hand at chicklit genre. Comedy is not something that comes to me naturally, so I want to work at it to challenge myself.”
