Yadav loves to be challenged
Raj Kumar Yadav’s Boyss Toh Boyss Hain didn’t get him a good response from the audiences and critics but the actor seems unfazed. He is presently occupied with upcoming films like Shahid, biopic of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, and Vikas Bahl’s comedy-thriller, Queen. Films like NH10, which is rumoured to have Freida Pinto as the female lead, and short film by Mira Nair are also on the cards.
Raj confesses that he could not have been happier and busier. “After doing theatre for three years in Delhi when I moved to Mumbai I had no work. I would approach directors and consider myself lucky if I get a call for an audition. In 2009, I saw an ad from Dibakar Banerjee for auditions. After a few meetings, he finally offered me the role,” recollects Raj. That is how he got his first break in Bollywood with Love, Sex and Dhokha.
He considers himself lucky to get to work with directors like Dibakar, Anurag Kashyap, Abhishek Kapoor and Reema Kagti. “I have learnt a lot from them and share a very friendly relation with each of the directors I have worked with. This is an exciting time for the industry as a new crop of filmmakers is emerging,” says Raj who insists that the audiences are more acceptable to unconventional looking actors now.
Raj believes that things are a lot more different now and want to make the most of it. “I have mostly done realistic cinema so far. But I won’t mind trying out different genres like comedy, masala films and a lot more. I am always looking for challenging roles,” says Raj, who misses his theatre days in Delhi.
