You’ve been dropped!
Have you ever found that you’ve been left out of your favourite sport even though you’ve spent weeks practicing because the coach or school sports captain doesn’t think you’ve got what it takes? Are your plans to play on the team ruined? Of course they are. And yes, it is a feeling of exclusion and it hurts. So, what should you do? Here are some answers to the questions buzzing around in your head …
***
Q Should you ask the coach/captain why you were dropped?
Yes, of course you should. You should want to know how to increase your chances next time. Ensure that you get a specific answer and let your sports teacher explain whether it was a lack of skill or positive attitude or whatever else.
Q What about your chances next year?
It depends how much you love the sport. No student or lover of a game should be discouraged from trying again. Rem-ember Michael Jordan got cut from his high school basketball team and look at his career!
Q Should you take extra coaching to better yourself?
Yes, if you want to but make sure your expectations are realistic. You must know your own abilities. Some schools have extra classes for weaker sports persons.
Q Should you choose another sport?
Weigh all your good and negative points. Discuss this through with your sports captain and with your parents and get a final general opinion before you change track.
